The story behind it...

The story starts with a picture; the one of a Royal Enfield Classic 500 CC, found in a magazine. The article next to it explained how the legendary bike started in Redditch in 1892 , turned the official supplier of the British War Department in 1914 and the official supplier of the Indian Army in 1949. The Madras Motors Company started off by receiving the Bullet in kits and simply assembling them... After various events, Royal Enfield turned 100% Indian in 1994, with new bike models to the delight of the European, American and local markets.

The Royal Enfield chronicle grew with time. And after a few months happened what would happen with such a narrative: it turned into a nice obsession which, as a journalist, was going to turn into a feature, whatever the way... This is how the England to India story started. That is only the beginning of a long and sleepless journey...

Among famous Royal Enfield riders are George Orwell, Eddie Mulder and the fearless Blake & Mortimer.

L'histoire derrière l'histoire...

A l’origine de mon projet, l'image d'une motocyclette Royal Enfield, trouvée dans un magazine. L'article revenait sur l'histoire de ces motos d'abord construites à Redditch en Angleterre, devenues pendant la guerre les motos des Officiers du British War Department en 1914 puis le fournisseur officiel de l'Armée Indienne en 1949. La Madras Motors Company recevait alors les motos en pièces détachées puis les assemblait sur place. Apres plusieurs évènements, Royal Enfield passait en possession indienne a 100% en 1994, avec a la clé quelques nouveaux modèles, aux grands plaisirs des marchés européens, américains et locaux.

L'histoire est ainsi restée dans mon esprit pour devenir quelques mois plus tard une belle obsession. En tant que journaliste, l'histoire allait donc devenir un article, quoi qu'il en coûte! C'est ainsi que que le projet From England to India est né. C’était le début d'un long long voyage en Royal Enfield Bullet 500CC.
